Freedom! - Sophie Scholl
20" x 16" x 1.5" - Acrylic on Gallery Wrapped canvas
Sophie Scholl was one of several members of the "White Rose" resistance movement in Germany during WW2. She was only 21 and instead of remaining complacent and safe, she chose to defend those who had no voice and were being persecuted. For this she was beheaded by the Nazis in 1943.
This painting was created to be one of 7 paintings in a the "Beauty instead of Ashes" exhibition, hosted by The Religious Academy. The painting travelled across Germany, in England and the US.
See the unveiling in Berlin, Germany.
