His Hour Has Not Yet Come

Acrylic - 30" x 15" x 1.5"

At the Wedding of Cana, it came to Mary's attention that the wine had run out. Apparently, running out of wine would very embarrassing for the bride and her family.  Mary, as Our Motherly Intercessor,  told Jesus, Her Son. He responded, "Woman, what has this to do with me? My hour has not yet come".  Mary told the servants, "Do whatever he tells you." Jesus proceeded to instruct the servants to fill six stone jars with water. They were filled to the brim. Then, he told them to draw out some of  water and take it to the master of the feast.  The water had turned to wine....

As the water starts to drip down into the wine goblet, the clock starts ticking. Jesus' public ministry has begun which will span three years and eventually lead to His Agony and Death. There are six stone jars, with the wine glass seemingly the seventh receptacle. The number seven is meaningful in the Bible...indicating fullness, completion...The shedding of Jesus' Precious Blood will eventually immerse the whole world in an ocean of God's Mercy. Hence, the red background.
