Silent Night Holy Night
2016-Acrylic-30" x 40" x 1.5"
The birth of any baby is a very joyful experience that the parents want to share with everyone. Don't we always want to know if its a girl or boy, how much she/he weighs, and we want to hold the baby. Yet, Mary and Joseph, on the birth of their First Child, had nobody with whom to share the news, in a lonely, cold cave, with animals to keep them company.
In this painting, I wanted to show the silence, poverty, isolation and rejection experienced by Mary and Joseph on the birth of Jesus, and how through their quiet humility, meekness, and trust in the Lord, their joy and appreciation of the sacredness of this special night was not dimmed at all.
