2016 - Acrylic - 12" x 12" x 1.5"
The first day of the Camino to Santiago de Compostela (Walk of Saint James) was walking over 25 km over the mountains of the Pyrenees in southern France over the border to Spain. The walk was steep at times, and difficult. But, there was so much pleasure along the way.
This painting captures the essence of this first day. There were many stones that rubbed against my sandals in the heat of the day. The gravel was slippery and a struggle to go uphill with a walking stick in one hand, and carrying all my supplies on my knapsack. However, each moment was savored, as the bitterness was mixed with the sweetness of the pretty foliage and the skies.
